The Mont-Saint-Michel, rising to 260 feet above sea-level, is a not-to-miss site, for its famous abbey and the fabulous bay of course, but also for its narrow streets winding up to the abbey, its little shops, its parish church dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries, its history museum and its marine and natural history museum, not St-Michel is about 10 mins by car from Pontorson. You may be better arriving at Rennes and then renting a car from there. You don't say how long you're staying, but there are other places you might like to visit, such as the American cemetery at St. James.
